Michel Mavros suddenly passed away

On Monday 9 October 2006 Michel Mavros passed away in his home in Paris. Michel Mavros played a central role in the production of the Sahel Opera as production co-ordinator and talent scout for Africa.

Michel Mavros collaborated with the Prince Claus Fund since 1998. He lived and worked in Africa for many years. His great passion was culture, and his activities ranged from film to fashion and communication. He contributed to the Fund’s activities in countless different ways.

Right from the beginning, Michel Mavros was deeply involved with the Sahel Opera Project, which is a Prince Claus Fund initiative. He was responsible for the Project’s co-ordination in Africa, and his role in the Opera’s development has been vital not only for the Prince Claus Fund but also – and more especially – for the artists of the Sahel region. His commitment, inspiration, sense of humour and know-how have been crucial both to the Project and to all the people involved.

The Fund has lost a dear friend and a wonderful man, whose personality, spirit and ideas will live on in the hearts and minds of many African artists and collaborators of the Fund.
